1. I found the experience to be peaceful. I did find it beneficial because I tend to carry negative feelings towards individuals with me and it was good to let those feelings go. I have been trying to practice this throughout the day. When a negative thought enters my mind I immediately try to diffuse it with positive thoughts. This is the year to really concentrate on internal wellness. I would definitely recommend this to others because a person needs to start with loving, kind thoughts in order to move on with deeper, inner healing. It is very beneficial and I have learned that to be physically well is only part of wellness.
2. The concept of a mental workout is practicing daily for five minutes to an hour 2 x's a day working out your mind as you would any other muscle in the physical body. Just like anything else with daily practice you will improve. The point of the daily mental work out is to find inner peace by first practicing loving/kindness. During the meditation you work on having only kind thoughts towards yourself and others. The proven benefits are an improved self physically and mentally. I can implement mental workouts to foster my psychological health by taking just 10 minutes a day to find a quiet place and concentrate on loving/kind thoughts which is the first step to becoming psychologically healthy.
Hey Lisa,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really stupid but I am pulling military duty so I am having the hardest time accessing any website from these stupid government computers. Are you able to send me the link that will allow me to complete the first part of this exercise. I think I might be able to access it if it is opened from within a email. I was really impressed that with your second half of the post. What exactly do you focus on in your meditations? Take care, Rob
P.S. if you get a chance please send the link to tao.fares@gmail.com
Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI agree that sometimes it is hard to let negative feelings go. It really does not affect that person at all, those negative feelings only hurt those who have them. I am trying to keep that in mind and not let that person have that much control over my feelings. It is hard sometimes. I love the replacing of a negative thought with a positive one. This is a great practice and one I think I will try as it seems a great way to keep a positive attitude and to see the glass half full. A lot of people make new years resolutions to get in better shape by exercising and eating right but as you point out that is only part of wellness. Doing a mental workout daily is another resolution we all need to make.

Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI think your stance on negative thinking is excellent...sending out positive thoughts will only bring positive outcomes. Negative energy or thoughts are draining and only lead to negative outcomes...the fact that you consciously make the decision to change negatives to positive indicates that you are on the road to healthy spiritual development :)
Taking 10 minutes out of your day for yourself will definitely help you further your development...I think that's an excellent start!
Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteYou make a great point on diffusing negativity-I find myself doing this often-I like to be a peacemaker. I find having a sense of humor helps! Taking 10 minutes a day sounds pretty reasonable for a mental workout and the results quite obtainable with practice. Best wishes in class and beyond!

Hello Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI find sometimes that negative thoughts can take over my mind and an exercise like this could be very beneficial in making sure these thoughts don’t control your life. This exercise helped in releasing so much stress that I felt revitalized when I was done.
I love how you broke down to focus on loving and kind thoughts for 10 minutes a day; this is very reasonable. I would think anyone is capable of setting aside two 5 minute segments a day to practices loving kindness while exercising your mind.
