unit 7

     1. I found the exercise difficult at first until I just imagined a fictional person who I look up to. I was able at that point to complete the exercise. Meditation and mindfulness have fostered an increase in my psychological and spiritual wellness by helping me to concentrate on healing the inside. I can continue to apply these practices daily to enhance my wellness.

     2. Basically you need to walk the talk. The health and wellness professional needs to practice this themselves to be able to help others. It will give more credence to what you're explaining. The professional also has more enthusiasm towards the subject because they have reaped the benefits of integral health. Yes, we have an obligation to our clients. I feel we need to be genuine to be believed if we have never practiced it our clients will not respect what we are saying to them. We can integrate these practices daily such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness exercise.

  1. This was such a great post and being able to practice what you preach is such an importatn aspect of our field. I think it is great that we as professionals can create a network and contribute to our field.

  2. Hello-

That is great that you have flourished in the weeks that we have been learning meditation and mindfulness. "Walk the Talk" is a great way to say it. I agree that we have to go through it so we can teach it.

  3. I like the saying walk the talk as it implies that as health care professionals we are knowledgeable about the subject and can support our clients in their needs in the areas of mind, body or spirit.

  4. I think that each person is different so different meditation practices are needed. For instance meditation for me sometimes is just sitting in the dark with my eyes close. I think that meditation helps us to witness our minds become more aware of what we allow our minds to focus on . I really enjoy these meditation practices as some points it seems harder than other but with practice comes perfection, Great post

  5. Hi Lisa,

I think you are on point when you say "you need to walk the talk." If the health professional does not practice what they preach, then they will never fully understand the patient's needs. You cannot possibly lead anyone on a path that you have never traveled...health professionals have an obligation to their patients to lead and they can only lead if they have been there themselves.

  6. Hi Lisa,

Good job on your blog posting! I too feel that meditation and mindfulness have definitely increased my psychological and spiritual wellness by helping me to concentrate on healing the inside. However, I wish that you had someone to meditate about instead of a fictional person, because if you had someone that you personally know, that would help you even more with your psychological and spiritual wellness even more. Thank you!
