UNIT 8
The two practices I have determined to be most beneficial are meditation and visualization. I can implement these practices daily by taking time in the morning (I work eves) when my mind is clear and to help me start the day off on the right foot. After I work out in the morning I will set aside anywhere from 10-20 minutes to practice my meditation and visualization exercises. I will sit in my sunroom where I can see the birds and squirrels outdoors and start by practicing deep breathing. I will then visualize a nice quiet place such as in the woods near a waterfall and just imagine the sounds of the wilderness, the birds and the wind. It is easier for me to visualize serene settings than it is to concentrate on individuals or problems in my life.

Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteMeditation and visualization are both beneficial practices and are easy to do anywhere. Being able to do this in the morning seems like a great way to start that day. It is nice that you can watch the wildlife as that can really help to relax you. One of the times I feel most peaceful is when I take a drive down a back road and stop to just observe nature. I try to visualize this setting but I do so much better when I am actually in that setting. It seems to help me solve any problems and always makes me feel peaceful.
Another way I meditate is I use my break at work to take a few minutes to close my eyes and try to focus on my breathing. That helps me feel more peaceful and less stressed.

Hi Lisa. I too love to do the meditation after I exercise. I love to run and even if I only get a 20 min run in, doing the meditation afterwards gives my body a chance to relax and focus on healing from inside out. I used to like to do yoga, but since practicing subtle mind, it has been my favorite. I have tried to get my kids to listen to it, 10 and 15, but so far that has not happened! I like to also sit by my fish pond and listen to the meditation session, even when its cold, I still feel warm if I concentrate enough. I love my fish pond, I call it my Serenity Pond because it is where I go to relax and deal with my problems. It took me an entire summer just to dig it and the fall to finish building it with the rocks and such. Great post, thank you.

Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI'm curious as to what type of meditation you use, are you able to take a minute to describe your meditation sessions. Have you ever heard of Tai Chi? I use that as a form of meditation. Take care and great post.
Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy doing my meditation in the morning also. I feel that is when my mind is the most clear and calm...I also enjoy the quietness the morning brings. I thought the visualization exercise was on key this week! It was amazing to feel the same joy, happiness and love that I had felt years ago by just visualizing a moment that was so important to me. This week's exercise just helped me to understand that we all can experience our glimpses of pure happiness if we just quiet our minds and bring ourselves back to that moment...definitely an exercise I will implement in my daily contemplative practices. Great post!!

Hello Lisa, It sounds like you have developed a great routine. I am enjoying the different meditation practices we have learned, I work early mornings and mid morning shifts so the consistancy is not there as it would be if my work times were the same everyday. I have been focusing on meditating in the evenings before i go to bed and it really helps me get a better night of sleep. My brain seems to not be as busy. I can see the different, because I didn't meditate the last two nights and my sleep was disturbed with thoughts of work. I have really enjoyed the experiences in this class and will benefit from them for the rest of my life.

Hello Lisa! It sounds really good how you have your time set aside for meditation and working out. I wish that I could do the same.I do both...but it is mostly when I can fit it in for the day. It varies day to day. May even change through the day. However I have to have it in my day in order to make it without losing my mind. I almost always have to briefly address an issue, but I quickly acknowledge it then move on to visualizing peaceful things.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI also chose meditation and visualization and I like how you work them in to your day. I use them when I get stressed and anxious, but if I started my day with either of them-maybe I would not get as stressed? It's worth a try-thanks for the inspiration! Best wishes to you in all that you do.
